A Personal Digital Assistant or PDA is shown at the right. It is a handheld computer for managing data aHP_PDAnd tasks. Data are synchronized between the PDA and laptop computer via a WiFi wireless connection.

To add a new PDA:

1) Once connected to the internet, go to ‘freewarepocketpc.net’ This site is filled with advertisements and may load slowly.
2) Search for ‘network’ in the search box
3) Download Network Folder Plugin

Map a network drive and explore the network with this File Explorer plugin

Network Folder

The file explore plugin is a powerful tool for access to outside information in a database, files stored on a computer, or to create files on a hard disk, and to manipulate files and folders. This is free software which allows simple connection between PDA and other computers.

After downloading , it installs automatically. The following windows are example of the displays.

4) Go to Start Programs File Explorer

5) On the Bottom Right of the screen, click ‘Menu

6) (In the Pop up window) click ‘Open path’     

7) Select ‘New Path’

8) Type \\ ‘computer name’\ ‘folder’  Example, \\chem7\chem7

9) Click ok

To save file on to network folder/ Retrieve files from the network folder.

Note: these instructions assume File Explore is active.

Blue Line

  1. Click and hold desired file until the circular dots appear. From the new pop up menu
  2. Select Copy (or cut)

Click under title bar (i.e. File Explorer) and select the folder name (ex. My Documents)

  1. On the drop down menu, Select shared folder (example \\Chem7\chem7)
  2. Click and hold on the screen until the circular dots appear again, select ‘Paste’

The shared folder is now active. Data can be sent to the laptop to prepare and print final lab reports.
