The following specification are for the departments most modern spectrometer for analysis of organic compounds for identification of their structure.

Varian NMR System 300 MHz NMR has DirectDrive architecture which provides optimal RF control and implementation. Configurable with up to 5 RF channels each300 MHz with parallel controllers, featuring Power PC and Xilinx FPGA. Direct Digital Receiver providing Quadrature (Single detection vs. Quadrature detection; The quadrature detector is a device which separates out the Mx' and My' signals from the signal from the RF coil.) it results in artifact free data. Digitizes and oversamples the IF (Intermediate frequency), using a 14 bit 80 MHz ADC (apparent diffusion coefficient). Effective 20 bit dynamic range at 10 KHz spectral width. Time corrected digital filtering provides flat baselines. Advanced phase and amplitude pulse shaping capability for RF and gradient pulses. Greater than 30Mbyte waveform memory per channel standard. Communication between all controllers by high speed Ethernet link.

Dewar Hold Time for the 300 MHz 54-mm bore Oxford aluminum magnet is 80 Days for liquid helium.

Direct Drive RF Front End (parallel controllers one for each transmiting and receiving channel). One contains high band and lowband GaAs FET (gallium arsenide field-effect transistor Field Effect Transistors) ultra-low noise preamps, and accommodates automatic probe tuning. Dual Channel 1 & 2, High/Low Band, DirectDrive architecture (eliminates the need for inductor and resonant capacitors for the oscillator) including Power PC and Xilinx (an electronics company who invented the {FPGA} ) FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array ). It provides total pulse programming control and delivers precisely timed RF events. Complete waveform shaping capability.

Channel 1 is highband, with 1H/19F observe, spinlock, and decouple capability (50 W, 200 to 300 MHz).

Channel 2 has broadband observe, spinlock, and decouple capability (12 to 220 MHz, 300 W and 220 to 245 MHz, 150 W). This dual channel module is for liquids NMR.

Variable Temperature Unit provides computer-controlled liquid sample temperature management from -150o C to +250o C, with 0.1o C resolution. Liquid sample variable temperature stability of +/- 0.1o C from -4o C to +60o C when utilized with Varian VT liquid sample probes and laboratory air preconditioning. Actual variable temperature performance is limited by the variable temperature range of the probe.

Performa I Pulsed Field Gradient Optimized for coherence pathway selection for
experiments such as COSY, HMQC, and HMBC.

Probe, Broadband -- 1H/19F/X 5-mm PFG (pulsed field gradient) ATB (Automation Tunable Broadband or always tuned) Broadband is ideal for solvent flexibility in high-throughput or ease-of-use laboratory environments. Capable of single, double and triple resonance studies of chemical samples. Circuitry optimized for robust, high solvent tolerance automation using high frequency (1H and 19F) and low low frequency (X tunable from 15N to31P) observe and decouple without mechanical action. Dual tuned coil provides X{1H/19F} triple resonance capability. High performance actively shielded z-axis gradient produces gradient without ECC (Enhanced Charge Capacity ) for best dephasing per unit time with Variable Tempature capability.
