The instrument is a 60 MHz proton NMR spectrometer. Anasazi has converted the continuous wave (CW) instrument and eliminated the old Varian console and plotter. The Anasazi/Varian instrument is a hybrid of older magnet and tuning technology with modern computers and software, resulting in a system which not only delivers good resolution but also is easy enough to operate so that both instructors and students can rapidly obtain accurate proton spectra from liquid samples. These properties make it an excellent tool for teaching the basic concepts of instrument operation and spectral interpretation.
Use of the Varian EM360 NMR Magnet
Step 1. Open the door on top of the magnet module. If a sample is present, place your finger over the small bleed opening to the left of the probe shaft. The sample will pop up in a couple seconds.
Step 2. Carefully place your sample tube in the spinner vane and adjust the depth with the built-in depth gauge at the front of the magnet. Drop the sample into the probe. Close the lid to the probe area.
