Do not initiate any of the following steps if the power is fluctuating between on and off. Wait until the power has been on for at least half an hour.If a power outage is announced turn off computer and critical instruments. 1. Room 230, turn the RO High Purity Water system off (the read out screen will be black). If it has been off for some time it may be necessary to allow the system to regenerate itself until the it produces 18 MOhm water. 2. At the alarm box in room 230 for all alarms Enter the 4 digit code (XXXX) to acknowledge the alarm, then XXXX (to clear memory) and XXXX to reactivate the system.
3. Room 38, the UPS for the Gemini 200 NMR automatically reset itself after a power outage but the next user must logon and type LOAD=Y SU LOAD=N and turn on the spin and lock. The Gemini instruments will show an opening message (Happy Newyear). The manager will have to reset the time and date. Note this computer does not recognize 2000, so the year of 1991 is used instead of 2001, etc. Go to the lock screen and turn on the spin. 4. Room 130, the UPS is only a power conditioner for the 300 MHz NMR does not automatically reset itself. There is a black button on the wall behind the instrument. Press this button once and push the green button on the rear of the console to restart the console. You will hear the instrument start up. Repeat the steps described in paragraph 3 to activate the software. The computer has a UPS and may not have lost power. It might also be necessary to access ROOT and from a terminal window type: vnmr/bin/setacq. Or from root type the following commands: cd .., cd vnmr, cd bin, and ./setacq. This command resets the console and takes a few minutes. Then open vnmrJ and in the command line type load=y su load=n. 5. Room 130, the power conditioner for the Unity 400 NMR automatically reset but you must push the green reset switch in the rear at the base of the console to restart the console. Logon and before opening VNMR, open a console or terminal screen and type: su acqproc and exit the terminal window. This allows the Acqi to open for access to the lock and shim screens. Open VNMR select setup and type load='y' su load='n' in the command line. 6. The Chemistry Sever (Praseo) is also in computer room on the third floor of building 95 and is reset by pushing up on the recessed-power switch, located at the right rear of the CPU. The switch is at the right of the power cable. There is an automatic backup (UPS) for about 15 minutes. 7. Room 38 and 40 have an independent air conditioner which must be restarted with the remote control in the back of my center desk drawer. The remote control for room 40 in the center desk drawer under the computer of room 40. Depress the on/off switch and observe the louver moving which indicated the reset has taken place. The louver does not move when the conditioner is turned off; it can not be adjusted without the remote control. A different remote control is required for each room. 8. Vacuum pumps such as the Freeze Dryer in building 95 room W357 must be disconnected to prevent oil from going into gauges. Close all valve to any samples and open any valve to air and turn the pump motor off. 9. All hood alarms for Building 95 laboratories must be reset.
10. All -80° freezers are in building 95.
11. In room 230, the laser printer need to be turned on and the GC integrator for HP gas chromatograph needs the date and time reset and all parameters entered.
12. Check the instruments in W186, 109, 109A, and 108 which may need to be reset as well as the third floor BSL-3 alarms.
