Chemical Spills in a Cell Compartment
 

Caution:

Be careful not to spill solvents inside to cell compartment.

Ask the following question before beginning an experiment and be prepared for any accidental spills or broken glass.

1. What was the solvent?

2. Was the solvent toxic or corrosive?

3. Is the spill small enough to be removed without removal of the cell compartment?

4. Are absorbent sponges or tissues present and rubber gloves present in the laboratory?

5. Do you know how to remove the sample compartment?

6. If the sample contains acid or base is there pH paper in the area to check decontamination.

Report any spills immediately.

1. Spills are a general concern to the Departmental Safety Officer and the Equipment Supervisor.

2. Any spill of a highly toxic material should be reported locally and to the university safety officers.
