A DOS file extension consists of three letters after each file name beginning with a period. For example, a text document from Word has the extension ".doc" or "docx"
The first letter of the extension identifies various files used by Varian for the Cary 100 is used to identify if the file is for a method, report, data, a template or batch. The last two letters of the extension further define the application: from read, concentration, scan, validation, kinetics, RNA/DNA, or scan kinetics.
See the following table to identify a file named 'Test.DSW' to determine this extension is data from a scan for a file named 'Test'. Each asterisk (*) represent a missing letter(s) and the peroid represent the beginning of the extension after the file name.
