Grading will be based on lab reports, quizzes, and attendance/safety. Lab reports will make up 75% of your grade with quizzes worth 15% and attendance/safety worth 10%. The 75% for lab reports will be divided equally between the labs.
Lab reports will be due one week after the lab is completed. Your are expected to do your own work on the lab reports. You may discuss the lab with others though.
Quizzes will be given before the lab begins. The quizzes will cover the material related to the lab to be done that day. There is no set number of quizzes, but each quiz will be worth the same amount.
Each absence or repeated safety violation will result in a deduction of 20% from the overall 10% for attendance/safety. There will be no extra credit offered.
Attend every lab, there will be no make up labs. If you miss a lab you will not be allowed to turn in a lab report for that missed lab in addition to the deduction mentioned above. Under extreme circumstances and when you notify me before hand (or bring a doctor's note specifying the emergency) you may be allowed to get the data from a classmate and complete the lab report. If you cannot come to one section on a particular day, but can make the other notify me before hand.
If any experiment is taking place in the lab everyone must be wearing safety goggles. Shorts, sleeveless shirts, short skirts, and open shoes are not allowed in the lab. The stock room is not likely to have anything to wear over these items. Students will be sent home if the proper apparel is not worn, or obtained.
Your work area should be clean when you leave. The desktop should be wiped down and your glassware should be cleaned.
See the Student Code of Conduct in the NMSU Student Handbook.
If you have or believe you have a disability, you may wish to self-identify. You can do so by providing documentation to the Office for Services for Students with Disabilities, located at Garcia Annex (ph: 646-6840). Appropriate accommodations may then be provided for you.
If you have a condition which may affect your ability to exit safely from the premises in a emergency or which may cause an emergency during class, you are encouraged to discuss this in confidence with the instructor and /or the director or Disabled Student Programs. If you have questions about the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), call 646-3635.
