*Score Requirements

GRE: Preferred score for the GRE general test: verbal + quantitative > 1000.
      Other applications may also be considered.
TOEFL: Internet based (students are encouraged to take this form of the test) - equal to or
      greater than 80
TOEFL: Paper based - equal to or greater than 550
IELT: equal to or greater than 6.5

Deadlines
Domestic:
     Application Deadline: July 1 for Fall; November 1 for Spring
Foreign:
     Application Deadline: March 1 for Fall; Students who send in complete applications before February 1 will
     be given higher priority for admission; no Spring admissions

All first year Graduate Students in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry are guaranteed a Teaching Assistantship. Continued support in successive years is dependent upon peformance.

Chemistry and Biochemistry Undergraduate Admissions

A degree in chemistry or biochemistry enables a student to pursue a wide variety of careers: in research, production, sales, management, and teaching. These degrees are also an excellent preparation for professional studies in medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, optometry, pharmacology, pharmacy, and law.  A total of 146 undergraduate students are studying Chemistry or Biochemistry   as their primary  major. Of these, 21% are white and 79% are from other ethnic backgrounds. There are five divisions of chemistry - Analytical, Biochemistry,  Inorganic, Organic, and Physical. We have a total of 20 active faculty members

Chemistry majors who have completed the requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree may receive American Chemical Society certification if they take one additional one-semester course which includes 1 credit of laboratory.
